Seller Stories: How Others Sold Their Vehicle

Seller stories

Ten sellers, ten different stories

Behind every sold car or motorcycle is a seller who made a choice. Some needed space for the next project, others wanted their pride and joy to go to the right person. On this page, ten of them tell what selling through Route 66 Auctions was like for them.

From a 1927 Indian Big Chief in Slovakia to a one-owner Ferrari Testarossa in Spain: different vehicles, different countries, one public auction every Thursday evening.

Dark blue Jaguar XK140 Drophead Coupé from 1957, sold at Route 66 Auctions
Jaguar XK140 Drophead Coupé | 1957

A beautiful new chapter

After years of enjoying my XK140, with its rebuilt engine and new grey leather, it was time for a new owner. That was quite a moment. Through Route 66 Auctions it went to someone who is just as enthusiastic about it as I am, which made saying goodbye a lot easier.

Green Land Rover Defender 110 High Capacity Pick-Up from 2016, sold at Route 66 Auctions
Land Rover Defender 110 HCPU | 2016

Exciting to the very end

In the last minutes of the auction I was glued to my screen, as new bids kept coming in for my Defender with just 1,400 miles from new. When it was finally sold, it was a great ending. The first thing I did was call my wife in to tell her the good news.

Metallic grey Ford Mustang Fastback C-Code from 1966 with racing stripes, sold at Route 66 Auctions
Ford Mustang Fastback C-Code | 1966

Interest from across the border

I hadn’t expected my Mustang to appeal to enthusiasts in so many different countries. A genuine C-code fastback with the factory 289 V8 turned out to have fans far beyond the Netherlands, and it was great to see that interest grow. Through Route 66 Auctions I found a buyer I would probably never have reached on my own.

Indian Big Chief motorcycle from 1927, sold at Route 66 Auctions
Indian Big Chief | 1927

In good hands

Auctioning a classic motorcycle was new to me, and a 1927 Big Chief sold as a show bike without registration papers raised quite a few questions beforehand. The Route 66 Auctions team took the time to explain everything. Because of that I knew what to expect and went into the auction with a good feeling.

Room for the next dream

My garage was full, and there was already something new on my wish list. Since 2018 the 360 had been a collector’s car for me, so I decided to offer it through Route 66 Auctions. The sale went through, the new owner is happy and I have room for my next adventure.

Harley-Davidson FLHPI Crow Bagger | 2010

From doubt to enthusiasm

At first I wasn’t sure an auction was right for a one-off like the Crow Bagger, the Killer Custom show build with its 30-inch front wheel. But once it was online and the first bids came in, I enjoyed it more and more. I’m very happy with the final sale and glad I took the step.

Metallic bronze Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Cabriolet from 1984, sold at Route 66 Auctions
Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Cabriolet | 1984

Sold with a good feeling

This car holds many good memories, and after five careful owners and never a restoration, I wanted it to go to someone who would value that originality. When I saw the buyer’s enthusiasm, I knew it was right. I hope he enjoys it as much as I did.

Red Mercedes-Benz 250 SL Pagoda from 1967, sold at Route 66 Auctions
Mercedes-Benz 250 SL | 1967

An experience we shared

We followed the end of the auction together on the sofa, and every new bid on our fully restored Pagoda made it a little more exciting. When it was sold, we raised a glass. That way the sale itself became a lovely memory too.

Valentine Beige Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 Fixed Head Coupé from 1966, sold at Route 66 Auctions
Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 | 1966

Good to be able to talk it through

With a car this rare, one of only 20 left-hand drive coupés built in Valentine Beige, I valued being able to talk things through during the sale. Asking a quick question, reviewing progress together and knowing the next step. That personal contact gave me confidence.

Black Ferrari Testarossa from 1987, sold at Route 66 Auctions
Ferrari Testarossa | 1987

I would do it again

Parting with a Testarossa I had owned since it was delivered new in Spain was a big step, and I look back on the whole process with pleasure. What I liked most was the combination of personal contact with the team and the excitement of the auction. If I ever sell another car, I will definitely think of Route 66 Auctions again.
