The private seller offers for sale this 1966 Sanglas 295, powered by a 295 cc single-cylinder engine. Presented in an elegant black and silver colour scheme with gleaming chrome, a polished headlamp nacelle with its integrated speedometer and the green Sanglas script on the side panels, this is a motorcycle that captures the dignified style of 1960s European motorcycling. The odometer indicates 10 km. According to the seller, the motorcycle has undergone a restoration, with neither cost nor effort spared to return it to its original specification, while a number of sensible improvements and modifications have been incorporated along the way. The polished alloy engine cases, the finned black cylinder and the fully enclosed chain case all speak of the period’s craftsmanship. This example belongs to the second series, built between 1961 and 1970, and the seller notes that it is a rare machine even in its home country of Spain, and the only example known to be registered in its current market. For collectors of the more unusual marques, a road-registered Sanglas is a remarkably rare opportunity.
Sanglas was founded in Barcelona in 1942 by the Sanglas brothers and built motorcycles until 1982, almost exclusively medium-sized single-cylinder four-strokes in capacities ranging from around 300 to 500 cc. In its early years production was intended almost entirely for government services, and Sanglas machines became a familiar sight with the Spanish police and other public bodies, earning a reputation for robustness and reliability. As private demand grew, Sanglas introduced commercial versions, among them the 295 cc model. Its air-cooled OHV single offers smooth, unhurried torque and simple, durable mechanics, while the solid frame and generous chrome reflect the quality of a machine built for professional service. Today Sanglas is one of the most collectable names in Spanish motorcycling, and because so few examples have survived outside Spain, a well-presented 295 offers a distinctive and characterful entry into a fascinating and little-known corner of European motorcycle history.
