The seller offers for sale this 1966 GMC 1500, powered by a 7.4-litre V8 engine, paired with an automatic transmission. Introduced in 1960, the GMC 1500 formed part of the first pickup truck line developed by General Motors on a dedicated truck platform, rather than on a car-derived chassis as before. The range introduced independent front suspension to a full-size American production pickup for the first time, together with a lower, drop-centre frame that allowed the cab to sit closer to the ground for easier access, and four-wheel drive became available as a factory option rather than an aftermarket conversion. Positioned as the three-quarter-ton member of the lineup, the 1500 was built as a straightforward and durable working truck, a character that has since made these first-generation GMC pickups a popular basis for restorations and modified builds among American truck enthusiasts.
According to the seller, this particular example was imported from the United States and has since been restored in the Netherlands, with the body separated from the chassis during the process. The chassis, together with the front and rear axles, was sandblasted and finished with an impact-resistant protective coating. The original drivetrain was replaced with a newly built 454 cubic-inch big-block V8, assembled with a balanced and ground crankshaft, a bored and honed block, new connecting rods, pistons and rings, and renewed bearings throughout. The cylinder heads were resurfaced and fitted with ground valve seats, ground valves and new valve springs, and the engine received a ground roller camshaft with a new timing chain. Power is sent through a rebuilt TH700R4 automatic transmission with uprated clutch packs and gears, operated through a floor-mounted shifter. Further additions include a new aluminium radiator with an electric fan, aluminium valve covers, and a conversion to run on LPG.
The brake system was renewed in full, with new cylinders, drums, shoes, lines and cables fitted around all four corners, and the truck rides on a set of new BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tyres in size 285/75R16. A new stainless steel exhaust system runs from front to back. Inside, the cabin has been completely reupholstered. The exterior paintwork has been left untouched and shows the truck’s original patina rather than a respray, giving it an honest, unrestored appearance alongside its mechanically renewed underpinnings.
