The Fleetwood name has been part of Cadillac’s history since the 1930s, when it was used for the finest coachbuilt bodies on the marque’s chassis. The 1993 to 1996 Fleetwood was a big, body-on-frame sedan on General Motors’ D-body platform, and it was the last Cadillac built on that rear-wheel-drive layout. It was powered by the 5.7-litre LT1 V8 that it shared with the Corvette and the Chevrolet Caprice, a combination of effortless torque and a soft, quiet ride that made it a favourite with owners who valued comfort over sporting pretensions.
