The professional seller offers for sale this 1985 Alfa Romeo GTV 2.0, powered by a 1962 cc twin-cam four-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Finished in classic Alfa Romeo red with a black lower body trim and dark cloth upholstery, this GTV presents in the later specification with the black bumpers, side protection and wheel design that characterise the final years of production. Particularly appealing to collectors is its ownership history: the car remained with one owner throughout its life before being offered now. The odometer currently reads 78,000 km, but the true mileage is a documented 178,000 km, as the counter has completed one full cycle.

In preparation for the sale, the car has been given careful attention. The paintwork has recently been polished, bringing back a deep gloss to the red finish, and the bodywork has been refreshed while keeping the original Giugiaro lines unaltered. On the mechanical side, the GTV has recently passed its periodic technical inspection with virtually no remarks and has received a thorough tune-up, including new spark plugs. According to the seller, the car is fully roadworthy and does not require any immediate work, with a smooth-shifting gearbox that lets the next owner enjoy the characteristic GTV driving experience straight away. The underside is reported to be in good order.

Inside, the cabin retains its original upholstery throughout, showing honest wear in keeping with its age and careful use. Two small items have been addressed with period-appropriate materials: a 10 cm seam on the driver’s seat has been re-stitched and a small 4 cm crack in the driver’s door panel has been repaired. The driver faces the classic GTV layout, with the rev counter and speedometer in a binnacle ahead of the wheel and the remaining gauges and switchgear grouped in the centre console, complemented by the sporting front seats with integrated headrests.

The GTV traces its roots to the Alfetta GT, introduced in 1974 as a sleek 2+2 coupé penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign. Built on the Alfetta platform, it adopted Alfa Romeo’s sophisticated transaxle layout, with the engine at the front and the gearbox and clutch mounted at the rear in unit with the differential, combined with a De Dion rear axle and inboard rear brakes. The result was a near-ideal weight distribution and a level of balance and road holding that set it apart from many of its contemporaries. From 1976 the 2.0-litre version carried the GTV name, and the model was progressively updated until production ended in 1987, by which time the GTV had firmly established itself as one of the defining Alfa Romeo coupés of its era.

At the heart of this example is Alfa Romeo’s celebrated twin-cam four-cylinder engine, a design with a long competition pedigree, appreciated for its eager response and unmistakable sound. Combined with the rear-mounted 5-speed gearbox and the balanced chassis, it gives the GTV the lively, communicative character that enthusiasts seek in a classic Italian coupé. With its single-owner history, documented mileage, original interior and recent servicing, this GTV 2.0 represents an attractive opportunity for both collectors and drivers looking for an authentic example of this sought-after transaxle Alfa Romeo.
