Description

Datsun 280Z | 1977

Highlights:

– 2.8-litre inline-six engine, petrol, manual transmission
– Original engine and gearbox still fitted
– Imported from California, USA, complete with California title and further import documents
– Relatively little corrosion for a vehicle of this age
– Two original keys included

The seller offers for sale this 1977 Datsun 280Z, powered by a 2.8-litre inline-six engine, paired with a manual transmission. Imported from California, United States, this 280Z is offered as an interesting restoration project, retaining its original engine and gearbox. The bodywork shows relatively little corrosion for a car of this age, though it does display the wear and aging typical of a vehicle that has not yet been restored; the accompanying photographs give a full impression of its current condition.

According to the seller, the engine currently starts and runs only with the aid of brake cleaner or starting fluid, and does not yet run independently on its own fuel supply; the exact cause has not been investigated. The car rolls and steers, but one of the brakes is binding, causing it to roll with considerable resistance; this should be taken into account when arranging transport, loading and unloading.

The car is accompanied by its California title and further available import documents; the applicable import duties and taxes have already been paid. Two original keys are included.

Launched in the mid-1970s, the Datsun 280Z was the final and most powerful iteration of the first-generation Z-car, fitted with the 2.8-litre L28 inline-six and, for the North American market, Bosch-designed fuel injection in place of the carburettors used on the earlier 240Z and 260Z. It succeeded the 240Z as one of the cars that established Japanese manufacturers as serious builders of affordable sports cars, and unrestored, numbers-matching examples such as this one remain a popular and accessible basis for enthusiasts looking to bring a classic Z-car back to the road.
