The private seller offers for sale this 1998 Yamaha YZF-R1, powered by a 998 cc inline four-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a manual transmission. When Yamaha introduced the YZF-R1 in 1998, it redefined the superbike class. Its compact, lightweight aluminium Deltabox frame, short wheelbase and five-valve-per-cylinder engine delivered a power-to-weight ratio that was ahead of its competitors, and its sharp handling made it an instant icon on road and track. The first-generation R1 remains one of the most celebrated sports motorcycles of the 1990s and is highly sought after by collectors today.
This example has been built up by the seller as a custom streetfighter, in which the standard fairings have been removed and replaced with a naked-bike look. The seller lists a sport air filter, an LSL handlebar, a custom windscreen, headlamp and tail light, a custom R1 radiator guard and a custom exhaust, all finished in a blue and silver colour scheme. The wheels and the rear mudguard have also been resprayed. New steel brake lines have been fitted front and rear, together with new grips and new dynamic indicators, and the electrical wiring has been checked and replaced. The seller states that the front fork was overhauled on 5 September and that a small service with an oil and filter change was carried out on 1 October. The seller notes that there is a scratch on the right-hand side of the tank, as visible in the photos, and that a Quad Lock phone holder is included but not shown in the photos.
