The private seller offers for sale this 1990 Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi Camper, powered by a 1584 cc air-cooled four-cylinder boxer engine, paired with a manual transmission. Finished in a cheerful two-tone combination of blue and white, this Kombi has been fitted out as a camper with a folding pop-top roof, a bench seat that folds out into a bed, wood-finish cabinetry with a sink unit and checked blue curtains throughout. A roof rack, a rear access ladder, white bumpers and whitewall tyres complete the classic look. The chassis number identifies the bus as a product of Volkswagen do Brasil, while the seller describes the camper conversion as Westfalia, so interested bidders are invited to verify the origin of the conversion for themselves. The current owner admits not being mechanically minded and therefore offers the bus as it stands, making it an appealing proposition for an enthusiast or a hands-on owner who wants to add the finishing touches. The bus currently holds a valid roadworthiness test (APK) until 30 September 2028.

The seller is transparent about the points that need attention. Cold starts currently require time and patience, although the engine keeps running once warm, and the clutch needs to be pressed down fully when selecting first and second gear to prevent the engine from stalling. A fuel leak can be noticed around the filler neck, most likely caused by a dried-out rubber seal that needs replacing. Inside, the interior is largely complete, but the front floor mat is missing and the rear bed lacks its wooden support batten, so the bench currently sags when unfolded. The bodywork would benefit from cosmetic attention, the chrome hubcaps show signs of age and some rust is visible around a number of the windows. All of this makes the bus an honest, usable base to be enjoyed and improved step by step.

The Volkswagen Type 2 was introduced in 1950 and quickly became one of the most recognisable vehicles of the twentieth century, the van that carried families, tradesmen and travellers around the globe. While German production of the second-generation bay-window model ended in 1979, Volkswagen do Brasil kept the air-cooled Kombi in production for decades at its São Bernardo do Campo plant, combining the bay-window front end with the rear body of the first generation. This unique hybrid, built with rear-mounted air-cooled engines until 2005 and with water-cooled power until the end of production in 2013, is what gives Brazilian Kombis like this one their distinctive character and the multi-window side profile so popular with enthusiasts.

Few classic vehicles offer the same combination of charm, practicality and sense of freedom as a Volkswagen camper. The simple air-cooled mechanicals are well understood and parts support is extensive, while the high seating position, the unmistakable boxer soundtrack and the ability to pull over and pop up the roof wherever the road leads give it an appeal that few cars can match. With its sleeping accommodation, period-style looks and long test validity, this 1990 Kombi Camper is ready to be fettled and enjoyed on summer trips, festivals and weekend getaways for years to come.
