The private seller offers for sale this 1968 Triumph TR250, powered by a 2.5-litre inline six-cylinder engine, paired with a manual transmission. Finished in red with a black interior, a wooden dashboard and the characteristic stripe across the nose, this cabriolet presents in an attractive period specification. The car has been carefully looked after and was stored in a heated space during the winter months, both by the current owner and by the previous owner.
This past winter the car received a thorough round of maintenance. A new Kenlowe electric engine cooling fan was fitted, the clutch master cylinder was rebuilt with new seals, and the brake master cylinder and rear brakes were rebuilt with new seals, with all brake lines flushed. Further work included a new belt, a new heater rheostat, an oil and oil filter change, new radiator hoses, a differential oil change, new tailgate hinges, a valve adjustment, new diaphragms in both carburettors and the replacement of selected suspension bushings.
The TR250 is one of the rarest and most interesting models in the Triumph TR family. Built for only one model year, from 1967 to 1968, it combined the Michelotti-styled body of the TR4A with the new 2.5-litre straight-six engine that also powered the fuel-injected TR5. While the TR5 was sold in Europe, the TR250 was the carburetted version fitted with twin Stromberg carburettors, primarily intended for the North American market. Around 8,500 examples were built, and the TR250 is recognised by its distinctive transverse stripe across the nose.
The inline six gives the TR250 a character of its own. It pulls strongly from low revs, has plenty of punch for a car of this size and produces a wonderful, smooth exhaust note that is a real highlight of the driving experience. Combined with the compact and lightweight body, independent rear suspension and direct steering, this makes the TR250 a genuinely enjoyable car to drive on winding roads. With its well-documented recent maintenance and careful storage history, this TR250 is ready to be enjoyed with the hood down.
