Description

Suzuki TS400 | 1974

Highlights:

– 396 cc two-stroke single-cylinder engine
– Original orange paintwork with Suzuki tank graphics
– Characteristic 400 side panel badges
– Import duties and VAT paid

The professional seller offers for sale this 1974 Suzuki TS400, powered by a 396 cc two-stroke single-cylinder engine. This TS400 wears its period orange paintwork with the blue and white Suzuki tank graphics and the bold 400 badges on the side panels, a look that instantly takes you back to the golden age of Japanese dual-sport motorcycles. The motorcycle shows the patina and wear of a machine that has been part of a long life, with signs of age on the paint, the chrome and the seat, which makes it an honest and unspoilt basis for a sympathetic recommissioning or a full restoration. Typical TS details such as the high-level exhaust with its chrome heat shield, the large finned cylinder, the wire-spoked wheels with dual-purpose tyres and the twin instruments are all present. The motorcycle has been standing and will need to be recommissioned before it is used again. Import duties and VAT have been paid according to the seller.

In the early 1970s Suzuki built its reputation in off-road riding on two-stroke singles, and the TS400 was the flagship of its TS enduro range. Introduced in 1972 and sold in some markets under the Apache name, it shared its engineering roots with the fearsome TM400 Cyclone motocross machine, but was equipped with lights, instruments and a more tractable state of tune for use on the road as well as on the trail. Its big 396 cc single delivered a strong, punchy torque curve that set it apart from smaller trail bikes of the era, and its tall stance and high exhaust gave it an unmistakably purposeful look. The TS400 remained in production until 1977, when four-stroke singles began to take over the class, and today it is valued by collectors as one of the last of the big two-stroke dual-sport singles. Unrestored examples are increasingly hard to find and form an appealing starting point for a project.
