The seller offers for sale this 1996 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV GSR, powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and all-wheel drive. Imported from Japan, this Evo IV shows 175,000 km on the odometer and has been fitted with a small number of tasteful extras: a Greddy turbo boost gauge and rev limiter to help protect the engine, an HKS rear silencer, a turbo timer to safeguard the turbocharger, and a coilover suspension kit aimed at improving cornering performance. The seller describes the car as a fast machine that has been well looked after.
Launched in August 1996 alongside a full model change of the Lancer saloon, the Evolution IV marked a major step forward for Mitsubishi’s homologation-special rally car. The signature 4G63T turbocharged four-cylinder engine was rotated 180 degrees in the engine bay to improve weight distribution and reduce torque steer, a layout that would remain in place for the rest of the Evo’s production life, while a new twin-scroll turbocharger helped lift power to 280 PS. The Evo IV was also the first in the series to introduce Active Yaw Control, an electronically controlled rear differential system that varies torque distribution between the rear wheels to sharpen turn-in and stability, replacing the mechanical limited-slip differential used on earlier Evolutions.
Offered in GSR road-going trim, with alloy wheels and a more comfort-oriented interior than the stripped-out, competition-focused RS, the Evolution IV combines the aggressive, purposeful styling, big fog lights, sculpted bonnet and prominent rear wing, with genuine day-to-day usability. Driven to World Rally Championship success by Tommi Mäkinen, the Evo IV remains one of the most sought-after Japanese performance sedans of the 1990s, and this example offers an imported, lightly enhanced route into that legacy.
