In 2022 the steering box and power steering pump were rebuilt, and the cold-start relay, spark plugs and V-belt were replaced. In 2023 all fluid levels were checked, the lighting inspected, and a cable break at the right headlight repaired, after which the car was presented for its technical inspection. The Pagode carries a documented American history and is supplied with its original Idaho Certificate of Title, while today it holds a Belgian registration with Belgian vehicle documents and a technical inspection valid through 2028. The 230 SL was launched in 1963 as the successor to the legendary 300 SL and 190 SL, and quickly became one of Mercedes-Benz’s most admired designs. Styled by Paul Bracq, it introduced the distinctive slightly concave hardtop roofline that earned the car its enduring “Pagode” nickname. Combining elegant, restrained styling with genuine engineering sophistication, disc brakes and a refined fuel-injected six-cylinder engine, the W113 SL offered a blend of comfort, safety and open-top touring ability that few rivals could match. Today the Pagode is regarded as one of the great classic Mercedes-Benz sports tourers, prized by collectors for its timeless design, quality of construction and relaxed yet capable character.
