Description

Highlights:

– 2.2-litre inline six-cylinder engine, petrol, manual transmission
– Mechanical fuel injection
– Originally from France, supplied with documentation
– Black original leather upholstery
– Good chrome parts included with the car

The private seller offers for sale this 1964 Mercedes-Benz 220 SEb, powered by a 2.2-litre six-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a manual transmission. Known affectionately as the “Heckflosse” or Fintail, the 220 SEb belongs to the W111 generation that Mercedes-Benz introduced in 1959 and that defined the brand’s executive saloons of the early 1960s. The 220 SEb was the fuel-injected member of the family, combining a refined six-cylinder engine with the Fintail’s upright, elegant lines and the generous chrome work typical of the period.

This example comes with documentation and, according to the seller, was originally supplied from France. The body is finished in a dark colour combined with black leather upholstery that the seller describes as original and heavy-duty, set off by a wooden dashboard, a large steering wheel with chrome horn ring and the traditional Mercedes-Benz star. The seller also includes a set of good chrome parts with the sale. Because of its age, the car is exempt from the periodic inspection and road tax.

The 220 SEb is remembered as the fuel-injected version of the Fintail saloon, offering more power and smoother running than the carburettor-fed 220 Sb. Together with disc brakes at the front and a strong monocoque structure, it was among the most advanced saloons of its time, which today makes it a sought-after classic for collectors and enthusiasts of the marque.
