The private seller offers for sale this 1970 Lancia Fulvia Berlina, powered by a 1,199 cc narrow-angle V4 engine, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Finished in white with a brown leather interior and contrasting blue door panels, this four-door saloon belongs to the second and final series of the Fulvia Berlina. It is equipped with Girling brakes and a brake servo, and its gearbox uses the dogleg shift pattern so valued in motorsport, with first gear placed down and to the left, out of the main H, so that the most frequently used ratios sit in a straight line for quicker, more precise changes. The headlining is noted by the seller as being in good condition, and the interior as a whole retains its period charm, while leaving room for some further attention.
What makes this Fulvia particularly interesting is its engine. According to the seller, it is fitted with the special 1,199 cc “Grecia” version of the V4, a displacement created primarily to suit Greek fiscal rules rather than the usual European specification of the second series. The seller indicates that only 2,114 examples were built in this form, which makes it an uncommon find today. The engine, brakes and clutch have recently been overhauled, although no documentation is available for this work. The previous owner used the car regularly for the daily commute. At some point in its life an LPG system was installed; this has since been removed, although traces of the installation can still be seen. The air filter housing has been removed for the photographs but is included with the car. The body has been repainted once in the past and the panels are largely free of dents, while the underside looks good for its age. The bodywork and interior would benefit from some cosmetic attention, making this an honest, usable Fulvia with clear potential for an enthusiast to take further.
Lancia introduced the Fulvia in 1963 as the successor to the Appia, and the Berlina was the first body style of a family that would go on to include the elegant Coupé and the Zagato-bodied Sport. Developed under engineer Antonio Fessia, the Fulvia brought front-wheel drive and disc brakes on all four wheels to Lancia’s compact class, combined with the build quality and engineering ambition for which the marque was known. The second series, launched in 1969, brought a revised body with a more upright front end, an updated interior and a 5-speed gearbox, and the Berlina remained in production until 1972. The Fulvia name earned lasting fame in competition, with the Coupé HF winning the 1972 Monte Carlo Rally and the International Championship for Makes that same year, a heritage that still shapes the reputation of every Fulvia today.
At the heart of the car is Lancia’s characteristic narrow-angle V4, mounted longitudinally ahead of the front axle and driving the front wheels. Compact, smooth and eager to rev, it gives the Fulvia a lively character that sets it apart from most saloons of its era. The clean, upright lines of the Berlina, with its quad headlamps, chrome grille and generous glass area, make it a refined and practical classic that can comfortably be enjoyed on regular drives. For collectors of Italian cars, the Fulvia Berlina offers the engineering finesse of the Fulvia family in a rarer and more understated body style, and this example, with its uncommon engine specification and dogleg gearbox, adds an extra layer of interest.
