According to the seller, the motorcycle has undergone restoration work covering both the engine and the rolling chassis, carried out using original Kawasaki parts. The work included a new brake caliper and pads, new front and rear tyres, a new brake fluid reservoir, and new throttle and clutch cables, alongside a complete overhaul of the front fork. The wiring harness and ignition system were replaced in full, the steering head bearings were renewed, and new gaskets were fitted between the cylinder and carburettor and between the carburettor and air filter housing, with the carburettor also synchronised and cleaned. A major service was carried out, including valve adjustment, along with a new battery and new springs and pins for the starter freewheel mechanism, as well as new bearings for the front wheel, rear wheel and rear axle. The frame and paintwork were sandblasted and refinished.
Introduced in 1974, the Kawasaki KZ400 was one of Kawasaki’s most successful mid-size roadsters of the 1970s, built at the company’s plants in Akashi, Japan, and in Lincoln, Nebraska, where Kawasaki became the first Japanese manufacturer to build motorcycles on American soil. The parallel-twin engine’s twin counter-rotating balancer shafts gave the KZ400 a notably smooth ride for its class, and the model outsold its closest rivals throughout the decade, earning a reputation as a practical, dependable all-rounder.
