    • V12 engine with automatic transmission
    • Single owner for 31 years with consistent indoor storage
    • Repainted and partially restored
    • Power steering and disc brakes
    • Original leather interior

The seller offers for sale this 1986 Jaguar XJS coupe, a grand touring classic powered by a 5.3-litre V12 petrol engine paired with an automatic transmission. This vehicle has been under the same ownership since 1994 and was purchased from a Jaguar dealer in Rotterdam. Originally imported from abroad, the car received a replacement engine approximately 20 years ago and has been garage-kept ever since.

Mechanically, the XJS is reported to be in good condition. The engine starts smoothly and the transmission shifts properly. The car holds a valid Dutch inspection certificate (APK) until summer 2026. Braking, steering, and drivetrain systems are all functioning as expected.

Cosmetically, the exterior presents well. Around two decades ago, the car underwent partial repainting. Some imperfections are present, including minor bubbling on select panels and a blemish on one of the wheel arches. Overall, the body remains straight and rust-free, with the factory chrome and trim largely intact.

Inside, the original leather interior is described as complete and very good. The upholstery shows some typical aging and light cracking but remains undamaged. The dashboard, instruments, and most interior components are functional, including the power antenna. The only noted issues are a non-functioning passenger door mirror adjustment, one faulty speaker, and a chip in the glass. The gauges and heater controls are operational.

The XJS debuted in the mid-1970s as Jaguar’s grand touring successor to the iconic E-Type. Although initially controversial for its styling, the XJS matured into a respected luxury coupe known for its long-distance comfort, refined ride, and powerful V12 engine. The Series II, which includes this 1986 model, brought significant improvements in reliability, quality, and overall usability. These models featured updated bumpers, better build quality, and improved drivetrain management, especially with the later Lucas electronic fuel injection systems.

Despite being heavier and more comfort-oriented than its predecessor, the XJS maintained a strong identity as a performance GT. The V12 engine—while complex—offered silky-smooth delivery and strong torque, making it well-suited for autobahn cruising and long-distance travel. With its flowing lines, long bonnet, and low roofline, the XJS remains one of Jaguar’s more distinctive post-war designs.

Today, the XJS is increasingly viewed as an emerging classic. Vehicles like this one, with long-term ownership, consistent indoor storage, and mechanical soundness, are becoming harder to find. Though not without some minor cosmetic work to consider, it presents a strong basis for preservation or light refurbishment, and offers a rewarding entry into 12-cylinder classic motoring.
