The seller offers for sale this 1964 Jaguar Mark 2 3.8, powered by a 3.8-litre straight-six engine, paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. Originally supplied and later registered in the United States, the car subsequently moved to the Netherlands, where it was acquired by the current owner in 1995, before being imported to France in 2011. Since taking ownership, the seller has had the engine overhauled and converted to run on unleaded fuel, the automatic transmission and power steering rebuilt, a new fuel pump installed and the power brake system fitted with a new vacuum device. A stainless steel exhaust and electronic ignition have also been fitted, along with an immobiliser, and the car has always been kept indoors.

Maintenance has been carried out mainly by professionals, with routine servicing handled by the owner, and a comprehensive history file accompanies the car, including invoices going back three decades and the original purchase invoice, together with its French classic car registration papers. The bodywork requires attention, particularly around the A-pillars, and the paintwork needs to be redone in several areas; the front seat cushions could also do with replacement and the interior shows wear consistent with the car’s age and history. A full set of tools is included with the sale.

Launched in 1959, the Jaguar Mark 2 refined the formula of its predecessor with a wider glasshouse, larger rear window and improved visibility, quickly establishing itself as one of the definitive sporting saloons of its era. Offered with a choice of 2.4, 3.4 and 3.8-litre versions of Jaguar’s famous XK straight-six engine, the 3.8 was the most potent of the three, giving the car genuine performance to match its elegant proportions and beautifully trimmed wood-and-leather cabin. Prized today for its blend of usable performance, comfortable long-distance manners and classic saloon styling, a well-sorted Mark 2 3.8 remains one of the most sought-after Jaguars of the period, and this example offers a rewarding ongoing project for an owner looking to complete the work already carried out.
