The seller offers for sale this Ford Taunus Transit from 1964 in Magirus firebrigade version, a rare classic van powered by a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with a manual transmission. This example has an interesting history, originally serving with the German fire brigade before passing through several owners and eventually being imported to the Netherlands in 2017. Since then, it has been thoroughly checked and mechanically refreshed with work including new brakes, clutch, water pump, radiator, shock absorbers and a full service. The engine runs well and the gearbox shifts smoothly, while the braking performance is described as strong. The van retains much of its original paint, which has been carefully preserved and touched up by hand, giving it a desirable patina. The interior is largely original, with seats in neat condition though the foam shows some wear, and the dashboard shows signs of age.
The current, but undocumented mileage is 42.000 km and a technical inspection is missing because this is not mandatory in the Netherlands for cars of this age.
The Ford Transit has been a cornerstone in the world of commercial vehicles since its introduction in the 1960s. Early models like the Taunus Transit are especially sought after for their distinctive styling and historical significance. Known for their practicality and durability, these vans have become popular among collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate their versatility and character. Whether used as a classic utility vehicle, promotional van or converted into a camper, the early Transit offers a unique driving experience combined with nostalgic appeal.
