The Fiat 124 Spider was introduced in 1966 as a collaboration between Fiat and coachbuilder Pininfarina, and remained in production until 1985. Based on the Fiat 124 saloon platform, it offered a twin-cam engine, independent suspension all round, and rack-and-pinion steering in a stylish two-seat open body. The later CS2 series, to which this example belongs, received revised front styling and a larger 1.8-litre engine, improving performance and driveability. The 124 Spider was sold in large numbers in both the United States and Europe, and today enjoys a strong following among classic car enthusiasts.
