The seller offers for sale a 1972 Citroën HY Currus CH14, a rare camper conversion based on the iconic Citroën HY and built by coachbuilder Currus. Of the approximately 400 Currus-built vehicles, only an estimated 15 to 20 remain, and this camper version with alcove roof is believed to be unique. The bus was imported from France in 2013 and subsequently addressed throughout, after which it has been used extensively for camping trips and classic vehicle meetings. It has been maintained and inspected during the entire ownership period. The interior was reworked in 2014 and includes a three-burner stove, refrigerator and toilet compartment, making it suitable for touring use. The engine starts without issues, produces no blue or white smoke when warm, and runs without unusual noises. The gearbox shifts smoothly and quietly. To improve drivability in modern traffic, the original Indenor engine was replaced by a 2.5 litre version combined with a 5-speed gearbox. The original engine, gearbox and related parts are included with the sale. The chassis is described as solid and unrestored, with age-related rust spots addressed as needed.
The Citroën HY has long been admired for its distinctive corrugated bodywork, front-wheel-drive layout and remarkable versatility. Originally developed as a commercial vehicle, it became a popular base for specialist conversions such as food trucks, service vehicles and campers. Coachbuilt variants like those produced by Currus are especially sought after due to their low production numbers and creative layouts. Today, the HY enjoys strong popularity among enthusiasts who value originality, usability and character, with camper conversions offering a nostalgic and practical way to enjoy classic motoring and travel.
