The seller offers for sale this 1971 Citroën D Super, powered by a 1985 cc four-cylinder engine running on both LPG and petrol, paired with a manual transmission. Originally delivered in white, the car was later refinished in the elegant shade AC616 Bleu Orient as part of an extensive restoration, at which time a colour code plate showing the new colour number was even fitted; following that restoration the car was professionally appraised in 2009. Today the bodywork requires attention in places. The left sill in particular is due for replacement and certain panels no longer present at their best, while other areas such as the roof gutters and the A, B and C pillars are described by the seller as being in good condition, as is the floor. The photos give a clear impression of the areas concerned. The interior is reasonably tidy, with acceptable upholstery and door panels and a headlining that presents well.

On the technical side much has been invested in this D Super. Maintenance has always been carried out by a DS specialist and a comprehensive file of invoices accompanies the car. Recent work includes the fitting of a reconditioned steering box, a substantial three-row radiator and a replacement hydraulic pump, while a modern alternator and electronic ignition have also been installed. The starter relay is reported to chatter slightly but functions, and the hydropneumatic suspension is reported by the seller to work as intended. The car runs on both LPG and petrol, making it an economical classic to enjoy on longer journeys.

The D Super joined the Citroën range in 1970 as the better-equipped successor to the ID models, combining the more powerful 1985 cc engine with the unmistakable silhouette of the legendary D family. Launched at the 1955 Paris Motor Show, the DS stunned the world with its futuristic aerodynamic styling by Flaminio Bertoni and its revolutionary self-levelling hydropneumatic suspension, technology that kept the car serenely level regardless of road surface. Nearly 1.5 million examples of the D family were built before production ended in 1975, yet the model has lost none of its ability to turn heads.

For collectors and enthusiasts, the D Super represents an attainable entry into D ownership with the larger engine and richer equipment, and its famed magic carpet ride remains one of the great experiences in classic motoring. This example, with its specialist maintenance history, recent technical work and practical dual-fuel installation, offers an honest basis to use and enjoy while attending to the bodywork at the new owner’s own pace.
