The private seller offers for sale this 1983 Audi 80 quattro, powered by a 2.1-litre five-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. Finished in a light silver metallic paint with matching multi-spoke alloy wheels and a brown cloth interior, this is a clean, honest example of the saloon that brought Audi’s rally-bred quattro technology to everyday motoring. The odometer reads 300,000 km. The car comes with its original papers, historic vehicle status and two years of roadworthiness inspection remaining.
While the seller is clear that the car has not been given a complete restoration, it has been fully taken apart. The underside was stripped back to bare metal and treated again, and all components beneath the car were blasted and powder-coated. The brake and fuel lines have been replaced, as have the ball joints, suspension arms, bearings, bushes and rubbers, while yellow Koni dampers have been fitted all round. The engine was dismantled, inspected and reassembled with new gaskets, and the fuel injection system remains original. The exterior has been completely repainted. Inside, the cabin is tidy and complete, with only some small dryness cracks in the dashboard.
When Audi stunned the motoring world with the quattro coupé in 1980, it proved that permanent four-wheel drive could transform the handling and traction of a fast road car. The next logical step was to bring that system to a practical family saloon, and the result was the Audi 80 quattro of the B2 generation. Combining the compact, crisply styled four-door body of the 80 with the drivetrain layout of its famous big brother, it offered all-weather security and sure-footed performance in a discreet package, and it laid the foundation for decades of quattro saloons that followed.
At its heart sits Audi’s characterful 2.1-litre five-cylinder engine, an engine renowned for its distinctive off-beat sound and strong, flexible torque. Power is sent through a slick 5-speed manual gearbox to all four wheels, with lockable centre and rear differentials for extra grip when conditions demand it. Clean lines, flush glazing and purposeful details give the 80 quattro an understated, timeless appeal. Today these early quattro saloons are increasingly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors, and finding one that has had this level of mechanical attention is a genuine opportunity.
