The private seller offers for sale this 1963 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint, powered by a 1.6-litre twin-cam four-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a manual gearbox. Finished in silver with bright orange wheels and a bank of four Cibié auxiliary lamps, this Bertone-styled coupé has been in the care of the current owner for around 40 years. During that time it has been maintained by the owner and campaigned in numerous regularity rallies, including two editions of the Monte-Carlo Historique, as the period photographs in the gallery show. Its preparation for historic rallying includes a new cylinder head, twin Weber 40 DCOE carburettors, uprated camshafts, a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold and front disc brakes.
Inside, the car has been fitted with a roll cage, which is no longer homologated for competition use, and a pair of Corbeau bucket seats. The seats have been retrimmed in leather in a colour matching the door panels, and are paired with blue harnesses. Importantly for anyone wishing to take the car back towards factory specification, the seller has retained all of the original parts.
The Giulia Sprint was introduced in 1962 as the successor to the celebrated Giulietta Sprint. It kept the elegant coupé body penned by Franco Scaglione at Bertone, but received the new 1,570 cc version of Alfa Romeo’s all-alloy twin-cam four, together with a five-speed gearbox. Built for only a few years before the arrival of the Giulia Sprint GT, the Giulia Sprint forms an important link between the Giulietta and Giulia generations and is today a sought-after model among Alfa Romeo collectors.
With its compact dimensions, light weight and free-revving twin-cam engine, the Giulia Sprint has always been a natural choice for road and rally use. This example, with its documented rally history, carefully chosen period-style upgrades and the reassurance of its original components, offers an entry into events such as the Monte-Carlo Historique, or a characterful Alfa Romeo for spirited touring.
