No prior appointment or registration is required to attend the auction in person. The auction is conducted by an auctioneer.
How can I bid?
If you wish to bid on a lot, you can choose from three online bidding methods. You can also bid in person at the auction location during the public auction.
1. Maximum bid – the easiest bidding strategy
With a maximum bid, you set the highest amount you are willing to bid. The system then automatically bids on your behalf and only increases your bid when necessary, in accordance with the applicable bidding increments.
- You do not need to continuously monitor the auction.
- As long as your maximum bid has not been exceeded, the system will continue bidding on your behalf.
- If another bidder bids above your maximum amount, you will receive a notification and can increase your maximum bid.
2. Regular bid
With a regular bid, you decide how much you wish to bid. Your bid must at least meet the minimum bid required at that time.
- You monitor the bidding process yourself.
- If you are outbid, you will receive a notification and can place another bid.
3. Quick bid
With a quick bid, you can select and confirm one of the suggested bid amounts with a single click or tap.
- You monitor the auction yourself.
- If you are outbid, you can immediately place another bid.
4. Bidding in person during the public auction
You can also participate in person in the public auction at Schutweg 16 in Waalwijk.
During the auction, you can communicate your bid to the auctioneer. A valid in-person bid will be incorporated into the bidding process and forms part of the same bidding sequence as the online bids. Online bidders and bidders present at the auction therefore bid against each other within the same auction.
If an online maximum bid has already been placed, this will automatically be taken into account when processing an in-person bid.
You do not need to register in advance to attend the auction in person. However, in order to place a bid, you must comply with the applicable bidder registration and identification requirements. This can also be arranged at the auction location.
When does the public auction take place?
The public auction takes place every Thursday between 19:30 and 21:30.
The scheduled closing time is shown on the product page of each lot. Lots are closed one after another during the public auction. The exact closing time may change if a bid is placed shortly before the scheduled closing time.
What is the minimum or reserve price and how does it work?
Most lots on Route 66 Auctions have a reserve price. This is the lowest amount for which the seller is willing to sell the lot during the auction. This price is determined before the auction.
Important to know:
- The exact reserve price is not visible to bidders.
- If the reserve price has not been reached when the lot closes, the lot is not automatically sold.
- If the reserve price has been reached or exceeded, the lot may be awarded to the highest valid bidder.
- The product page indicates whether the reserve price has or has not yet been reached.
How is the next minimum bid determined?
The next minimum bid is automatically determined based on the current highest bid.

This makes it clear to every bidder what minimum amount is required to place a valid higher bid.
Why is the auction time sometimes extended?
To give both online and in-person bidders sufficient opportunity to respond, Route 66 Auctions uses an automatic extension system.
If a valid new bid is placed within the final 3 minutes before the scheduled closing time of a lot, the remaining bidding time is extended back to 3 minutes. This applies both when the bid is placed online and when a valid bid is processed at the auction location through the auctioneer.
Example:
If a valid new bid is placed with 55 seconds remaining, the remaining bidding time is reset to 3 minutes.
This gives all participants the opportunity to respond to a new bid.
How does the closing of a lot work?
The public auction is conducted by an auctioneer.
Online bids and in-person bids are combined into a single bidding process during the closing of the auction. The auctioneer supervises the closing of the lots.
A lot is only closed once the applicable bidding period has expired and no further valid extension takes place. If the reserve price has been reached and the other auction conditions have been met, the lot is awarded to the highest valid bidder.
Is a bid binding?
Yes. Every valid bid placed during the auction is binding, regardless of whether the bid is placed online or in person at the auction location.
A bid cannot be withdrawn or cancelled once it has been placed.
If you are the highest valid bidder at closing, the reserve price has been reached, and the lot is awarded to you, you are required to complete the purchase in accordance with the applicable terms and conditions.
Can I attend the public auction without bidding?
Yes. You may attend the public auction in person without being required to place a bid. No prior appointment or registration is required to attend.
If you later decide to place a bid during the auction, you must comply with the applicable bidder registration and identification requirements.
Why am I unable to place an online bid?
There may be several possible reasons.
1. You do not yet have an account
To bid online, you must first create an account.
2. Your account has not yet been verified
Your account must be activated and verified before you can bid online.
3. Your bid is invalid
An online bid may be rejected if:
- it is lower than the required next minimum bid;
- it has not been entered correctly;
- the lot has already closed.
Can I buy a lot directly before the public auction?
Some lots offer a ‘Buy Now’ option. This allows you to purchase the vehicle at the stated price without waiting for the lot to close during the public auction.
If this option is available, it will be clearly indicated on the product page.
Important distinction
A purchase made via ‘Buy Now’ is not a bid placed during the public auction. In this case, the purchase is concluded directly before the auction closes, using the applicable purchase procedure.
Different legal rules and terms may therefore apply to a purchase made via ‘Buy Now’ than to a purchase concluded after bidding during the public auction. Please refer to the applicable terms and conditions.
How does ‘Buy Now’ work?
When using ‘Buy Now’:
- you select the stated fixed purchase price;
- you pay the applicable buyer protection fee through our payment system;
- you receive confirmation after successful completion;
- the remaining financial settlement is handled in accordance with the applicable terms and conditions.
The ‘Buy Now’ option disappears before the start of the public auction at the time indicated on the product page.
