What is my vehicle worth?

What is my car or motorcycle worth?

Curious what your classic car, modern classic or motorcycle could fetch at auction? At Route 66 Auctions we are happy to give you a free, no-obligation auction estimate. We look at your vehicle, current demand in the market and the results of comparable vehicles from our extensive database of auction results.

This gives you a well-founded picture of the potential auction result, so you can decide at your own pace whether selling through our auction is right for you.

How do we determine an auction estimate?

Every vehicle is different. Two cars of the same make, model and year can still differ considerably in value. That is why we look beyond an average asking price.

We combine the details of your vehicle with our market knowledge and the figures from our large database of auction results. Among other things, we look at:

Make, model and specification

How sought-after is the vehicle, and is it a special version, engine or transmission?

Year and mileage

Do the age, the stated mileage and the signs of use match up?

Mechanical and cosmetic condition

What state are the bodywork, paint, interior and mechanics in?

History and documentation

What is known about maintenance, restorations, provenance and previous owners?

Originality

Is the vehicle original, restored or modified?

Comparable auction results

What prices do comparable vehicles achieve, and under what circumstances were they sold?

An asking price in an advert tells you what a seller hopes to receive. An achieved auction result shows what a buyer actually bid. It is this real-world data that helps us give a realistic estimate.

How does condition affect value?

Condition plays a major role in value. A well-maintained vehicle that can be used straight away often appeals to different buyers than a restoration project.

We look at the overall picture. For a car, think of rust, paintwork, the state of the interior and how the engine and gearbox perform. For a motorcycle, the condition of the frame, tank, chrome and drivetrain also matters.

An honest description helps set the right expectations. So please also mention any known faults, overdue maintenance and damage.

Why does history matter?

A well-documented history gives buyers more insight into what they are buying. Service invoices, a service book, restoration photos and information about previous owners can all add to the appeal of your vehicle.

Less documentation available? We are still happy to look at the options. We take the available information into account in our assessment and point out where any uncertainties lie.

What is a reserve price?

The reserve price is the minimum amount for which you are willing to sell your car or motorcycle at auction. We agree this price with you in advance.

A suitable reserve price takes into account the condition of your vehicle, comparable results and demand in the market. A reserve that is set too high can stand in the way of a sale, which is why we are happy to advise you on a realistic level.

The reserve price and the expected result are not the same thing. The reserve is the agreed minimum; with enough interest, bidders can go above it. If the reserve price is not met, your vehicle is not sold automatically.

How the reserve price works

Reserve met: soldIf the highest bid reaches or exceeds the reserve price, your vehicle is sold.
Reserve price: the minimum agreed in advance
Reserve not met: not sold automatically

What can you expect from our estimate?

Based on the information you provide, we give an estimate of the potential auction result. We also discuss which reserve price might suit it.

The final result is determined during the auction and depends on factors such as the level of interest and the bids at that moment. An auction estimate is therefore not a guaranteed sale price or a formal valuation report. If the condition turns out to differ from what was described beforehand, the estimate may change too.

When we discuss your selling options, we also explain the applicable fees, so it is clear what a sale would mean for you.
