Description

Rokon Trail-Breaker | 1968

Highlights:

– 200 cc single-cylinder engine
– Two-wheel drive with large aluminium wheels
– Tubular luggage racks front and rear
– All import duties and VAT paid

The professional seller offers for sale this 1968 Rokon Trail-Breaker, powered by a 200 cc single-cylinder engine. Finished in green with the ROKON name across the fuel tank, this Trail-Breaker shows the rugged, purpose-built design that has made the model a cult machine among off-road enthusiasts. Its oversized aluminium wheels on wide Maxxis Bighorn tyres, the tubular steel frame with luggage racks front and rear, the sprung solo saddle and the exposed drivetrain with its Albion gearbox and chain drive give it a utilitarian charm that no conventional motorcycle can match. The motorcycle has been standing and, according to the seller, will need to be recommissioned before it returns to use. It is offered with Canadian documentation, and all import duties and VAT have been paid. As a genuine piece of American off-road history from the 1960s, it is a conversation piece for collectors and a fascinating machine for anyone who enjoys unusual vehicles.

The Rokon Trail-Breaker was conceived by Charles Fehn in the late 1950s, who built a first prototype in 1959 and patented his idea in 1963: a motorcycle that drives both its front and rear wheels. Power is sent through chains and shafts to both wheels, allowing the Trail-Breaker to climb steep slopes, cross mud, sand and snow and crawl over obstacles at walking pace where ordinary motorcycles would quickly give up. Its large drum-shaped wheels were designed to be hollow, so they could carry extra fuel or water and even let the machine float across rivers, while the hand-shifted Albion three-speed gearbox with centrifugal clutch made it easy to ride in the roughest terrain. Popular with hunters, farmers, foresters and military users, the Trail-Breaker became an American icon of utility motorcycling, and Rokon still builds two-wheel-drive machines in New Hampshire today, which makes these early examples especially interesting for collectors.
