Description

Honda CR480R | 1983

Highlights:

– 472 cc air-cooled single-cylinder two-stroke engine
– Pro-Link single-shock rear suspension
– Final production year of the CR480R
– All import duties and VAT paid

The professional seller offers for sale this 1983 Honda CR480R, powered by a 472 cc air-cooled single-cylinder two-stroke engine. Presented in Honda’s racing red with contrasting yellow number plates, the gold Honda wing emblems on the tank and the bold 480R lettering across the black seat, this CR480R looks every inch the factory open-class motocrosser it was built to be. The CR logos on the side panels, the Pro-Link decals on the swingarm, the long-travel forks with gaiters and the spoked wheels on knobbly tyres complete the authentic early 1980s motocross look. The motorcycle has been standing and, according to the seller, will need to be recommissioned before it returns to use. It is offered with Canadian documentation, and all import duties and VAT have been paid. For collectors of vintage motocross machinery, it represents an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire one of Honda’s legendary big-bore two-strokes.

The CR480R was Honda’s open-class motocross weapon for 1982 and 1983, succeeding the CR450R and sitting at the top of the Red Rocket CR range. Its 472 cc air-cooled two-stroke single delivered the kind of torque and raw power that defined the open class of the era, while Honda’s Pro-Link rising-rate rear suspension, with a single shock mounted behind the engine, gave the chassis a level of sophistication that set new standards for long-travel motocross bikes. For 1983 the model received a five-speed gearbox and internally adjustable front forks, making this final-year version the most developed of the air-cooled CR480R models. The following year Honda replaced it with the liquid-cooled CR500R, which makes the CR480R the last of Honda’s big air-cooled motocrossers and a much-loved machine among vintage motocross riders and collectors today.
