The private seller offers for sale this 1980 Yamaha XS650, powered by a 650 cc parallel-twin engine. According to the seller, this XS650 is entirely original and has covered just 23500 km. It has not been restored, but in 2023, after a long period of standstill, it went to a specialist in Germany for a major overhaul, documented by an invoice of 3000 euros. The work included new brakes, carburettor synchronisation, tyres, a recent battery, various gaskets and silent blocks. The seller recently added fresh oil, an upgraded filtration kit (strainer and filter) worth 200 euros and new air filters. The seller adds that the electric starter works well, which is not a given on this model, as it is a known weak point of the XS650. The seller describes the original exhausts as still looking good, and the only flaw mentioned by the seller is a dent in the fuel tank, for which a paintless dent repair specialist has indicated the mark could be reduced. The motorcycle is offered with a technical inspection certificate and a registration application, according to the seller.

The XS650 is the model that put Yamaha on the map in the large-capacity motorcycle world. Introduced in 1970 as the XS-1, it was Yamaha’s answer to the British parallel twins that had dominated the market for decades. Its air-cooled, overhead-camshaft vertical twin is known for its character, its torque and its simple, accessible construction. Through the 1970s the model was continually refined, and by 1980 it combined electric starting with the classic two-up seat and chrome-heavy styling that still define the look of a late-generation XS650.

Today the XS650 enjoys a loyal following among classic motorcycle enthusiasts. It is easy to work on, parts support remains strong and it is a favourite base for customisers, yet original, unmodified examples like this one are becoming harder to find. With its deep red tank with gold pinstripes, chrome fenders, spoked wheels and low mileage, this example presents the XS650 in a form close to how it left the factory. A third owner now has the chance to take over a motorcycle that has recently been serviced and that is described by the seller as a genuine collector’s item.
