The private seller offers for sale this 1954 Bentley R-Type Continental, powered by a 4,566 cc six-cylinder engine, paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. The R-Type Continental was introduced in 1952 as Bentley’s high-speed grand tourer. It combined the chassis of the R-Type with a lighter, more powerful engine and a more aerodynamic body, and it quickly became one of the most coveted British cars of its era. Most were clothed by H.J. Mulliner in the now-famous fastback form, while only a small number were bodied as open cars by other coachbuilders, which makes this Park Ward cabriolet a rare sight.

According to the seller, this is the number 1 chassis of just six built in 1954, making it a unique example. Under the long bonnet sits the 4,566 cc six-cylinder engine with overhead inlet and side exhaust valves, driving the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic gearbox. The suspension is independent at the front by wishbones and coil springs, with a live rear axle on half-elliptic leaf springs, and the servo-assisted drum brakes are hydraulic at the front and mechanical at the rear. The car is right-hand drive.

The cabriolet is finished in a silver-blue metallic with a dark blue hood. Inside, the pale blue leather seats are paired with dark blue carpets and a polished walnut dashboard with Smiths instruments. The odometer reads 93711 miles. The car has Spanish registration and is offered from a private collection.
