The private seller offers for sale this 1956 Renault Dauphinoise Fourgonnette, powered by an 845 cc four-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a manual transmission. It is finished in a soft light blue, with white wheels and chrome bumpers that give this little van a charming period look. The cab features cream upholstered seats, a body-coloured dashboard and a slender white two-spoke steering wheel, while behind the front seats a load area with wooden slatted floor protection is accessed through two rear doors, each with its own window.
According to the seller, the vehicle was completely rebuilt four years ago and has been used only sparingly since. The photographs show a tidy engine bay, a neat interior and a consistent finish throughout. The vehicle comes with a valid roadworthiness inspection.
The story of this van begins with the Renault Juvaquatre, launched in 1937 as Renault’s answer to the small family cars of Opel and Peugeot, with a modern unitary body and independent front suspension. A light van derivative followed, and after the war the Juvaquatre van became a familiar sight on the roads of France as a delivery vehicle for shopkeepers, craftsmen and tradesmen. In 1956 Renault fitted the estate and van versions with the 845 cc engine of the new Renault Dauphine, and with it came a new name: Dauphinoise. The more modern engine brought extra performance and flexibility, and the Dauphinoise remained in production until 1960, after which the Renault 4 took over its role.
With its rounded wings, the vertical-bar grille and the separate headlamps, the Dauphinoise Fourgonnette embodies the charm of French utility vehicles of the 1950s. It is compact, easy to drive and full of character, making it an ideal vehicle for classic car events, as a distinctive promotional vehicle for a business or simply as a delightful addition to a collection. Surviving examples are increasingly hard to find, especially in this presentation.
