The Jaguar XJ-S was launched in 1975 as the successor to the E-Type and grew into one of Jaguar’s longest-running models. In 1983 Jaguar introduced the XJ-SC, the first open version of the XJ-S, featuring a distinctive targa-style roof with removable panels, a fixed central roll bar and a folding rear hood. Initially offered with the new 3.6-litre six-cylinder engine, the XJ-SC was made available with the celebrated V12 from 1985. Production ended in 1988, when the XJ-SC made way for the fully open XJ-S Convertible, and only around 3,800 V12 examples were built, making it one of the more exclusive variants of the entire XJ-S family.
At the heart of this car is Jaguar’s legendary 5.3-litre V12 in High Efficiency form, featuring the Michael May designed combustion chambers that improved economy without sacrificing the silky smoothness and effortless torque for which the engine is renowned. The XJ-SC offers the unique flexibility of three configurations: fully closed, with the targa panels removed, or with the rear hood folded down as well for a true open-air experience.
