The seller offers for sale this 1934 Renault Monaquatre, powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine, paired with a manual transmission. This Monaquatre was inherited by the current owner together with another classic car from his father and has been laid up for a while since. Before that, the car was driven under its own power, and it is now being sold due to a lack of time and space rather than any particular fault. The paintwork presents in reasonable condition, as do the rubber seals, window glass, chrome trim and lighting. Inside, the upholstery, seats, headliner and dashboard are all described as being in good order, although it is not known to the seller whether individual parts are original, restored or replaced. As the car has stood for some time, it will need to be recommissioned before returning to the road, with no recent service history known.

Launched in October 1931 as a smaller companion to the six-cylinder Renault Monasix, the Monaquatre was Renault’s compact, four-cylinder family car of the early 1930s, sharing its wheelbase with the larger Primaquatre. This example, built in the 1,463 cc-engined form introduced for the 1933 model year, represents the most powerful and best-known version of the range, offered in a wide variety of body styles from four-door saloons to drophead coupes.

The 1.5-litre side-valve four-cylinder engine drives the rear wheels through a three-speed gearbox, offering the straightforward, easily serviced mechanical layout typical of Renaults of this period. The upright grille, flowing wings and generous glasshouse are characteristic of pre-war Renault saloon styling, and the Monaquatre’s honest, no-nonsense engineering has kept it a popular choice among enthusiasts of affordable 1930s French motoring.
