The seller offers for sale this 1983 Citroën Dyane, powered by a 700cc two-cylinder engine, paired with a manual transmission. According to the seller, the car was first registered in France in 1983 and was owned by a nun living in a convent, before being re-registered in Italy in 2015. The current owner purchased the car in September 2024 and has since refurbished the seats using the original upholstery, complemented with custom-made white seat covers. The soft top has been renewed on its original frame, and four new tyres have been fitted.
The engine bay has also been gone through, with the battery, spark plugs, distributor wiring and cap, points and fuel pump all replaced, together with a new exhaust from the manifold and new shock absorbers. The car has also had an oil, oil filter and air filter service, along with a gearbox oil change. It carries ASI registration, the Italian historic vehicle registry, and the mileage currently stands at 80,000 km. The seller notes some surface rust beneath the floor pan, on an original, unreplaced panel.
The car was restored in 1993 by a French mechanic and has been kept under cover ever since. It has been used sparingly by the current owner, including outings to a car gathering and a wedding, and the seller describes it as suitable for either daily use or purely as a collector’s car.
Introduced in 1967, the Citroën Dyane was conceived as a more modern-looking alternative to the 2CV, sharing the same corrugated-steel construction, all-independent suspension and air-cooled flat-twin engine, but with a more conventional hatchback tailgate and squarer styling. Positioned between the 2CV and the Ami in the Citroën range, the Dyane became popular across Europe for its simplicity, light weight and low running costs, and remained in production until 1983, making this car one of the last examples built before the model was discontinued.
Like its 2CV sibling, the Dyane is built around a lightweight platform chassis with a soft, long-travel suspension set-up that gives it a distinctive, comfortable ride over rough surfaces, while the flat-twin engine and simple mechanicals have long made it a favourite among owners who enjoy maintaining classic cars themselves. Its folding canvas roof and removable rear window make it a practical, easy-going open-air classic for touring and everyday use alike.
