The seller offers for sale this 2001 Buell X1 Lightning, powered by a 1,200 cc V-twin engine. This particular example shows 2,000 km on the odometer and comes finished in a striking red and white livery, with “Buell” branding across the fuel tank and fairing. The seller indicates that the motorcycle has undergone extensive modification and rebuilding work carried out by Dub Performance, including a reconditioned front fork, a newly applied paint finish and a new-generation fairing with integrated turn signals. The seat has been upholstered in Alcantara, and the engine is fitted with S&S performance components in place of the standard powerplant. The bike presents in good condition throughout, reflecting the scope of work the seller describes having been carried out.

Buell Motorcycle Company was founded in 1983 by Erik Buell, a former Harley-Davidson engineer with a background in AMA roadracing, and quickly built a reputation for producing distinctive, performance-oriented American motorcycles built around modified Harley-Davidson V-twin engines. The X1 Lightning, introduced in the late 1990s, represented one of the most focused expressions of that philosophy: a naked streetfighter built around a 1,203 cc air-cooled V-twin, paired with an aggressive frame-mounted fairing, an underslung exhaust and a Kevlar-reinforced belt final drive. Buell’s engineering signature, including the low-slung, mass-centralised chassis and the distinctive rim-mounted front brake disc, set the X1 apart from anything else on the market at the time and helped establish Buell as America’s answer to the European sportbike scene. Today, the X1 Lightning is sought after among collectors and enthusiasts of American motorcycling for its individuality, its association with Erik Buell’s engineering philosophy and its increasingly rare presence, particularly in extensively personalised form such as this example.
