This example carries charming torpédo coachwork finished in a two-tone black and yellow livery, matched with brown skai upholstery, and the tyres are in good condition. Recent work on the car includes an overhaul of the magneto, carburettor and brakes, as well as a new head gasket and fresh batteries. The original hood is still with the car, though the seller notes it is due for replacement. The car comes with a valid inspection.
The Renault NN was introduced in 1924 as Renault’s answer to the growing demand for a compact, affordable and dependable light car in 1920s France. Built at the famous Billancourt works, the NN sat above the smaller KJ from which it evolved and quickly earned a reputation for robustness, famously underlined when Renault sent these small cars on long-distance endurance drives, including crossings of the Sahara. Its 950 cc four-cylinder side-valve engine was praised for its flexibility and simplicity, while the distinctive sloping “coal scuttle” bonnet, with the radiator mounted behind the engine, gives the NN its unmistakable vintage-era face.
Tens of thousands of NN models were built until production ended in 1929, yet surviving examples in usable, roadworthy order have become increasingly scarce. As a genuine 1920s tourer, the NN offers wonderful access to pre-war motoring events, rallies and club gatherings, and its open torpédo body makes every outing an occasion. With its recent mechanical attention and characterful period livery, this NN presents an appealing opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts of early French motoring.
