The seller offers for sale this 1966 Chevrolet Corvette C2 Sting Ray, powered by a 5.3-litre (327 cubic-inch) V8 engine, paired with a manual transmission. This convertible comes out of a private collection and was restored some years ago, with the previous owner having kept the car for 29 years before it passed into the current collection. The black interior remains in excellent order throughout, complete with its wood-rimmed steering wheel, full instrumentation and centre console, and presents with essentially no wear, while the bodywork and paintwork show the light, honest signs of age one would expect from a restoration that is no longer brand new, without detracting from the car’s overall presentation.
The C2-generation Sting Ray, produced from 1963 to 1967, marked a dramatic departure from the original Corvette, introducing sharper, more aggressive styling alongside an independent rear suspension for the first time. By 1966, the range had matured into arguably the most complete expression of the mid-year Corvette, offered as a coupe or, as here, a convertible, with a choice of small-block 327 cubic-inch and, for the first time this year, big-block 427 cubic-inch V8 engines. This example carries the small-block 327, offered that year in 300 and 350 horsepower forms, a unit prized for its smoother, more tractable character alongside plenty of performance for spirited road use. Standard equipment across the range included four-wheel disc brakes, first introduced the year before, along with the bucket seats, simulated walnut steering wheel and full instrumentation that were a Sting Ray hallmark.
Inside and out, the C2 remains one of the most collectible Corvette generations, prized for its Bill Mitchell-penned styling, its blend of usable performance and everyday drivability, and the relative rarity of well-kept small-block convertibles like this one. Offered here from a long-term private collection, this Sting Ray represents an opportunity to acquire a classic American convertible with a well-documented ownership history.
