Description

Hudson Super Six | 1929

Highlights:

– 4.7-litre six-cylinder engine, petrol, manual transmission
– Pre-war American open tourer from the late 1920s
– Subject to a comprehensive restoration in the interest of authenticity
– Extensive history file with numerous invoices and a restoration dossier

The seller offers for sale this 1929 Hudson Super Six, powered by a 4.7-litre six-cylinder engine, paired with a manual transmission. The car is an open tourer finished in two-tone green over a green interior, with a folding fabric top, wire wheels and the upright, elegant proportions typical of late-1920s American coachwork. According to the seller, the car was originally delivered to Belgium in 1929 and, during the war years, was carefully hidden at the Château de Valençay, where it remained undiscovered until 1991 alongside other vehicles. The owner subsequently carried out a comprehensive restoration in the interest of authenticity, and the car is offered with numerous invoices and a restoration dossier.

The Hudson Motor Car Company of Detroit built its reputation in the 1910s and 1920s on the strength of its Super Six, a model whose smooth and durable six-cylinder engine helped establish Hudson as a respected American marque. By the late 1920s the Super Six combined dependable engineering with handsome, well-proportioned bodywork, and cars of this type were sold across Europe as well as in North America. Surviving pre-war Hudsons are now scarce, and an open tourer of this vintage carries genuine historical appeal.

This example, with its documented wartime concealment, recorded rediscovery and subsequent restoration, offers a rare opportunity to acquire an evocative pre-war touring car backed by an unusually rich history file. It is a charismatic and increasingly hard-to-find classic from the closing years of the 1920s.
