The seller offers for sale this 1967 Peugeot 404 Coupé, powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a manual transmission.
This 404 Coupé is finished in Peugeot metallic grey following a comprehensive bodywork preparation, during which the body was fully stripped and the windows, doors, bonnet and boot lid were removed before respraying. All window and door rubbers were renewed and the chrome trim was re-polished. Inside, the car has a new red leather interior covering the front seats, rear bench and door panels, complemented by a cream headliner and grey carpeting.
According to the seller, the engine was removed for attention, with the cylinder head skimmed and a new head gasket fitted, along with a new 12-volt alternator and new radiator hoses. The gearbox was replaced with another unit and a new clutch and pressure plate were installed, operated by a floor-mounted shift. The brakes were inspected and renewed or overhauled where required, and the car sits on new tyres. The seller notes that the gearbox and rear axle show some oil seepage and that the car is not fitted with a working washer system, although a new water reservoir with pump is supplied separately. The seller further states that the car has passed a local roadworthiness inspection valid until 20 March 2027.
The Peugeot 404 was introduced in 1960 and remained in production in various forms throughout the 1960s and into the 1970s. Styled by the Italian design house Pininfarina, the range included saloon, estate, pickup, cabriolet and coupé body styles. The Coupé and Cabriolet were the most exclusive members of the family, built in comparatively small numbers and positioned as the flagship models of the line. The 404 earned a strong reputation for durable engineering and proved a successful competitor in long-distance events such as the East African Safari Rally, while the elegant Pininfarina-bodied Coupé remains one of the most desirable variants among collectors today.
