From a cosmetic point of view the car has received fresh paintwork, and the engine has undergone a rebuild, along with the fitment of an aluminium radiator with electric cooling fans. Wiesmann was founded in 1988 by brothers Martin and Friedhelm Wiesmann, who set out to build handcrafted sports cars combining classically inspired styling with contemporary underpinnings. The company’s gecko logo reflects its ambition to build cars that stay glued to the road, much like the gecko clings to a wall. Between 1993 and 1994, the first eleven examples of the marque’s roadster were produced, comprising four cars fitted with a 2.5-litre engine, badged MF25, and seven fitted with the larger 3.5-litre engine, badged MF35, as offered here. Wiesmann would go on to build a series of increasingly ambitious models over the following two decades, including the later MF3, MF4 and MF5 generations, before the company’s insolvency in 2013; in total, fewer than 1,600 examples of the marque were ever built, making any Wiesmann a genuinely rare sight.
