Highlights:
- Unrestored and in original condition
- 1600cc petrol engine with manual transmission
- UK-registered and ready to be inspected
The seller offers for sale this rare 1976 Volkswagen Type 2 Pick-up, featuring the classic air-cooled 1600cc four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a manual transmission. It has been stored from new and never driven beyond delivery mileage, remaining in wholly original, unrestored condition.
This left-hand drive pick-up retains its factory paintwork and original parts throughout. It has not undergone any modifications or technical upgrades. Mechanical components, including engine, gearbox, lighting, and indicators, are reported to be in solid operational condition.
The bodywork is in good shape, with only some minor chips and small scratches present. There are a few pit marks on the bumpers, but no structural concerns. The interior is intact, retaining its original fittings with no need for replacement parts.
The technical condition is good. Although not currently MOT-tested, it has passed such inspections in the past and has not been used since.
Volkswagen’s Type 2 series—also known as the “Transporter,” “Kombi,” or “Microbus”—was a global icon of practicality and charm. Introduced as VW’s second car line following the success of the Beetle (Type 1), the Type 2 brought versatility to both commercial and private use. The pick-up variant, like the one offered here, was especially popular with tradespeople and small businesses across Europe for its durable design and flatbed cargo space.
By 1976, the Type 2 had evolved into its second generation, internally coded as T2. This generation featured a more refined driving experience, improved visibility, and better handling compared to its predecessor. While many were used rigorously and often modified over time, finding one in such original and minimally used condition is exceedingly rare.
The Type 2’s cultural impact cannot be overstated—it became a symbol of mobility, utility, and a free-spirited lifestyle. As such, it’s widely sought after by collectors, restorers, and enthusiasts. This 1976 pick-up offers a unique opportunity to own a true piece of Volkswagen heritage that reflects the brand’s legacy of reliability and functional design.
