The seller offers for sale this 1982 Volkswagen T3, powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, paired with a manual transmission. The Transporter has been converted into a camper and fitted with a lowered suspension setup from H&R, set at 45 mm front and rear, together with Lenso BSX wheels in a 7.5×17-inch size and wheel spacers at the rear, all covered by the relevant technical certification (Gutachten). The car is accompanied by a valuation report (Wertgutachten) from 2025, which assesses the vehicle at €20,000. The odometer shows 101,000 km, exactly as reported by the seller.
The T3, also sold as the T25 in the UK and the Vanagon in North America, was introduced in May 1979 in Hannover as the successor to the T2 “Bay Window” and was the last of Volkswagen’s rear-engined models, with a larger, squarer body than its predecessor. Early T3s were offered exclusively with air-cooled flat-four petrol engines, but in February 1981 Volkswagen introduced the range’s first water-cooled diesel engine, a 1.6-litre unit borrowed from the Golf. The engine fitted to this 1982 example is among the earliest of that diesel generation. Beyond the factory van, pickup and Caravelle passenger versions, the T3 was also turned into a camper by numerous independent coachbuilders, a tradition that has helped keep the model firmly at the centre of van-life and camping culture ever since. Production continued in Germany until 1992, with four-wheel-drive Syncro versions built slightly longer in Austria, and the model remained in production in South Africa until 2002.
With its boxy, practical shape and rear-engine layout, the T3 has become a popular base for individual conversions and modifications, and this example’s lowered stance and aftermarket wheel set-up reflect that ongoing enthusiasm for the model. Combined with its camper conversion and a formal valuation report to back up its assessed worth, this T3 offers a well-documented way into VW bus ownership.
