The seller offers for sale this 1975 Triumph TR6 Cabriolet, an American-spec carbureted model from the final year of TR6 production. This example features a 2.5L inline-6 engine with 6 cylinders and is equipped with a manual transmission and working overdrive. A substantial list of mechanical upgrades has been carried out, such as a 123 Bluetooth programmable ignition, lightweight high-torque starter, a new generator, and a spin-on oil filter conversion. The fuel system has been overhauled with refurbished carburetors, an alloy fuel tank, and K&N air filters. Cooling improvements include an alloy radiator, new water pump, and electric fan with thermostat.
The drivetrain benefits from a rebuilt gearbox (by Bastuck), a second-generation CV joint conversion on the driveshaft, and a new Sachs clutch system. Handling and suspension upgrades include adjustable GAZ shocks, polyurethane bushings throughout, uprated anti-roll bars, and a custom trailing arm setup by Wiel Netherlands that allows camber and toe adjustments. Braking and steering were also addressed, with a new steering rack, improved linkages, and alloy mounts.
This TR6 is offered with both original 15” wheels (with TÜV-compatible Vredestein Classic tires) and aftermarket 16” König alloy wheels fitted with Dunlop Sport Blue Response tires. A set of rare 1970s Cosmic wheels is also available for restoration. Additionally, a removable hardtop is included.
The exterior is described as good.. However, the car wears a typical U.S.-style paint job which might benefit from refinishing or correction work.
Inside, the cabin has been renewed with real leather upholstery, including upgraded Mazda MX-5 seats, matching carpets, and new glass elements with green tint. The dashboard features wood veneer and a Moto-Lita steering wheel. An auxiliary lighting setup, fiberglass gearbox cover, and many new seals and rubber trims are part of the comprehensive interior refurbishment.
Mechanically, the car is good. Lights and indicators are functional. The car has passed technical inspection and is registered with a German H-Zulassung, making it eligible for classic car status. Additional upgrades include modern electric fans, high-end suspension components, and substantial investment in long-term reliability.
Originally developed as a British response to American demand for powerful roadsters, the Triumph TR6 was launched in 1968 as a successor to the TR5. While retaining the same basic chassis and engine, the TR6 featured a sharper Michelotti-influenced design produced by Karmann of Germany. It quickly became Triumph’s most successful model of the TR series, with nearly 92,000 units sold—mostly in the U.S.
The TR6 is powered by a 2.5-liter straight-six engine, originally available with either fuel injection or twin carburetors depending on market. The U.S.-spec carbureted versions, like the one offered here, were less powerful than the European PI models but gained a reputation for better reliability and simpler maintenance. All cars came with a four-speed manual gearbox, with overdrive being a popular and desirable option.
Thanks to its body-on-frame construction, the TR6 lends itself well to restoration and modification. Owners often enhance performance and handling with aftermarket suspension components, modern ignition systems, and improved cooling—just as seen on this car. The large engine bay and parts availability make it an accessible choice for hobby mechanics and collectors alike.
Today, the TR6 enjoys strong support from enthusiast communities and specialist suppliers, particularly in Europe and North America. Its blend of classic styling, usable performance, and open-top driving make it a beloved member of the classic British roadster club. Examples like this one, featuring tasteful upgrades and careful long-term ownership, are becoming increasingly sought after.
