The seller offers for sale this 1974 Triumph TR6, originally built for the US market. It is powered by a 2.5-litre six-cylinder petrol engine paired with a manual gearbox. The car has a recorded 75,999 miles, which the seller confirms is documented. This particular TR6 benefits from a prior restoration, with further detail work completed under current ownership.
Several technical updates have recently been carried out: the carburettors were rebuilt and tuned, valve clearances adjusted, cooling system hoses replaced (including interior heater lines), and the gearbox oil changed. A new soft top was installed and all four tyres were renewed. The engine bay has received attention, with a new rocker cover and gasket fitted. These improvements aim to keep the car reliable and enjoyable to drive.
While this TR6 is described as being in good condition, it is not presented as a concours car. The paintwork is in good condition but shows signs of use, including minor wear typical of an older restoration. The convertible top is new. The car has not been subjected to mandatory Dutch inspection certificate (APK) due to age but comes with a previous inspection report.
Inside, the car currently features Mazda MX-5 seats for improved comfort. The original Triumph seats, however, are included and in good condition. The wooden dash is functional but could benefit from refinishing to restore its appearance. Other interior features include a classic wood-rimmed steering wheel and a functional aftermarket radio system.
Launched in 1969 and produced until 1976, the Triumph TR6 was the last of the traditional British roadsters, combining classic styling with a strong inline-six engine and rugged rear-wheel-drive layout. With its squared-off styling, Karmann-designed front and rear ends, and robust construction, the TR6 became Triumph’s best-selling model of the era, especially in the North American market.
The TR6 carried over the mechanical bones of the earlier TR5/TR250, but offered improved handling, a more comfortable cabin, and a deeper exhaust note that made it particularly satisfying to drive. It retained independent rear suspension, front disc brakes, and a basic yet effective interior layout. Over 90% of TR6 production went to export markets, particularly the USA, making left-hand drive versions like this one common yet highly valued by European collectors.
This example, with its blend of originality and practical upgrades, represents a usable and enjoyable classic that captures the essence of British open-top motoring. It is suited to Sunday drives, club meetings, and classic rallies, and is ready to be enjoyed by a new owner with an appreciation for traditional craftsmanship and classic sports car character.
