The seller offers for sale this 1971 Triumph TR6, a convertible fitted with a 2.5-litre 6-cylinder petrol engine and manual transmission with overdrive on 3rd and 4th gear. The vehicle was first registered in Pennsylvania, USA, and comes with the original purchase invoice, warranty booklets, and maintenance history. After being imported into the Netherlands at 21,500 miles, the TR6 underwent a restoration between 2017 and 2019. Emphasis was placed on the mechanical systems and the interior.
Several thoughtful upgrades have been installed to improve performance and reliability, such as an aluminium fuel tank, polyurethane suspension bushings, a higher capacity 55A alternator, vacuum gauge, and a dual-mode electronic radiator fan that can activate automatically or manually. A secondary bonnet release mechanism was also added. The stainless steel double exhaust system not only contributes to the sound but complements the car’s character.
The paint and chrome work are in good condition. Although the car has been repainted at some point, there is no documentation of when this was done. The convertible soft top is recent and features a zipped rear window. The wheels currently installed are aftermarket Wulfracing alloys; however, the original steel wheels with TR6 hubcaps are included in the sale.
The interior of the car was redone with high-quality materials. The wooden dashboard, gear knob, and steering wheel are new and in excellent shape. All Smiths gauges are functioning correctly. The upholstery is finished in black skai, including the seats and floor mats, which are in good condition. A period-style modern radio is installed and operational.
Mechanically, the car is reported to be solid and comes with a valid Dutch technical inspection certificate (APK). It is considered road-ready and suitable for regular driving.
The Triumph TR6 is one of Britain’s most beloved classic sports cars, produced from 1968 to 1976. Powered by a torquey inline-six engine and often equipped with overdrive, the TR6 delivered respectable performance and a solid driving experience. With Michelotti styling carried over from earlier TR models, the TR6 retained a traditional yet muscular profile. Its Karmann-designed rear end gave it a distinctive look among British roadsters of the time.
The TR6 was particularly popular in the North American market, where the majority of production was sold. US versions came with carburetors, while the rarer European models had Lucas mechanical fuel injection. Although the latter produced more power on paper, many enthusiasts appreciate the reliability and ease of tuning the carbureted engines.
What sets the TR6 apart in today’s classic market is its blend of old-world charm with relatively modern road manners. It offers a raw, analog driving experience but with enough refinement for longer drives. This makes it ideal for vintage rallies, casual weekend touring, or simply appreciating classic British engineering.
With a strong aftermarket support network and an active enthusiast community, the TR6 remains one of the most accessible and enjoyable classic convertibles. This particular example benefits from practical upgrades, documented restoration, and preserved heritage, offering a solid opportunity for collectors and drivers alike.
