The private seller offers for sale this 1979 Triumph Dolomite 1850 HL, powered by a 1,850 cc four-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a manual transmission. Finished in green with a contrasting beige cloth interior and a gold coachline along the flanks, this Dolomite 1850 HL is a model that is rarely seen on the road today. A large part of its maintenance history is present, and the current owner bought the car in March 2025 from a specialist in Triumph models. The seller reports that the cylinder head was skimmed in the past following a leak, that some oil seepage is visible in the engine bay, and that the underside shows no noteworthy corrosion points on a visual inspection. The car has been repainted all round, which the seller has established with a paint thickness gauge, and the work is reported to be neatly executed.
The Triumph Dolomite arrived in 1972 as a compact rear-wheel-drive saloon, positioned as a more upmarket alternative to the Toledo and sold until 1980. The 1850 HL, where HL stands for High Line, paired the 1,854 cc overhead-cam four-cylinder engine with a more generous level of equipment. Inside, that means a wood-veneer dashboard with a full set of round dials, wood-effect door cappings and comfortable ribbed seats, all of which are clearly present in this example. Outside, chrome bumpers, quad round headlamps and a neat grille give the car its distinctive, understated 1970s British character.
The Dolomite was praised in its day for its balanced handling and refined character, and it was the platform on which the later, sportier Dolomite Sprint was built. Today, cars like this one, with a largely present maintenance history and a tidy presentation, are an attractive entry into classic Triumph ownership. This example also comes with a tow bar fitted.
