– Originally delivered in South Africa, single owner before 2016
– Desirable Saphire Blue Metallic with full black leather interior
– Equipped with sunroof, air conditioning, and rare Blaupunkt sound setup
– Service history with original manuals and recent technical inspection

The seller offers for sale a 1985 Porsche 928 S in Saphire Blue Metallic with a deep black leather interior. Originally delivered to South Africa in January 1985, this V8 grand tourer remained with its first owner until 2016, when it was imported to Germany. Since then, the car has been in the care of the current owner, who has invested significantly in its mechanical and cosmetic upkeep.

Powered by a 4.7-litre V8 engine, the 928 S was a luxury-performance blend, matched with an automatic transmission. It features desirable period options such as power steering, disc brakes, cruise control, air conditioning, electric seats, windows and mirrors, central locking, a sunroof, and the original Blaupunkt Bremen SQR32 radio, enhanced by a rare “Schwanenhals” equalizer. It rides on factory 16″ ‘Flat Disc’ alloy wheels fitted with Goodyear Efficient Grip tyres.

The car has covered verified 145,172 km (around 90,700 miles), which is modest for its age and engine size. The service book is stamped, and a significant number of mechanical upgrades and repairs have been completed over the last eight years. Work includes: a new timing belt, belt tensioner, water pump, automatic gearbox, overhauled fuel injection system, dampers on the rear axle, instrument cluster restoration, battery replacement, and a rebuilt electric sunroof system. The most recent oil service was performed in April 2024.

The exterior ia in good condition. There are some minor signs of age, such as stone chips and light scratches, but overall the bodywork presents well.

The interior shows patina consistent with the car’s mileage, particularly on the leather front seats. Despite this, it remains complete and well-preserved. Electronics and switches are functional.

It has a valid technical inspection and is ready for the road.

The Porsche 928 was introduced in 1977 as a bold departure from the brand’s rear-engined sports car legacy. Intended to replace the 911, the 928 was Porsche’s vision of a luxurious, high-speed grand tourer for the future. With a front-mounted water-cooled V8 and a transaxle layout, the car offered a near-perfect weight distribution and an uncharacteristic level of comfort for a Porsche at the time.

The 928 S variant launched in the early 1980s with a larger 4.7-litre engine and performance upgrades, pushing its output to around 310 horsepower in European specification. It also gained refinements such as better sound insulation, higher-quality interiors, and additional standard features. The 928 S was praised for its balance of performance and civility, capable of covering long distances at speed with remarkable ease.

Collectors and enthusiasts have gradually come to appreciate the 928’s distinct engineering, smooth V8 character, and forward-thinking design. Well-maintained examples with documented histories, like this one, have become increasingly sought after. The combination of long-term investment in mechanical upkeep, rare factory options, and a clean ownership history makes this a compelling opportunity for someone looking to enjoy or preserve a landmark model from Porsche’s past.
