The seller offers for sale this 1970 Porsche 911 T Targa, powered by a 2.2-litre air-cooled flat-six engine, paired with a manual transmission. The seller purchased the car in 2019 from the Turmgarage Porsche centre in Kleve, Germany, to where it had been imported from the United States, and in 2020 the car received a bare-metal restoration at the Porsche specialist Petroretro in Athens. Since the completion of that work the car has seen very little use, as the seller owns several other historic cars and admits he never quite grew accustomed to the classic dog-leg gear pattern with first gear positioned at the bottom left. Presented in white over a dark interior and riding on the iconic Fuchs-style wheels, the car cuts a very period-correct figure.
The 911 T occupies a special place in the early 911 story. Introduced in 1968 as the touring model of the range, it paired the timeless Butzi Porsche silhouette with a more accessible character, and for the 1970 model year the entire 911 line-up gained the enlarged 2.2-litre engine, bringing more torque and greater flexibility. The Targa body, named after the Targa Florio road race, was Porsche’s ingenious answer to open-air motoring, combining a removable roof panel with the distinctive brushed stainless steel roll hoop that has since become a design icon in its own right. Early small-bumper 911s of this era are prized for their purity of line, compact dimensions and delicate detailing, qualities that later, larger 911 generations never quite recaptured.
Values of pre-1973 911s have established themselves firmly at the top of the classic Porsche market, and restored, well-presented examples are keenly contested by collectors worldwide. This 911 T Targa, freshly restored and barely used since, offers an enthusiast the chance to step into one of the most desirable chapters of the 911 lineage.
