Description

Plymouth Barracuda | 1965

Highlights:

– Early example of the first-generation Barracuda
– Powered by a 3.7L Slant 6 engine with automatic transmission
– Original paint with patina, structurally solid with some cosmetic rust
– Modified original radio with Bluetooth functionality

The seller offers for sale this 1965 Plymouth Barracuda, an early pony car that predates the Mustang. Known for its distinctive fastback design with a large curved rear window, the Barracuda holds a special place in American automotive history as one of the earliest muscle car precursors.

This example features a 3.7L Slant 6 engine, which was rebuilt in 2008. The car has an automatic transmission, making it an easy cruiser. It was purchased as a project, with many parts replaced or restored over time.

The exterior retains its original paint, which has developed a patina over time. While it adds character, there are areas that may require attention. Some surface rust is visible, particularly near the rear fenders, but structural rust has been repaired.

The upholstery shows signs of wear, especially on the front seats, where the padding is deteriorating. The car does not have a headliner.

A modern touch has been added with the conversion of the original radio to Bluetooth compatibility. A subwoofer was previously installed but is not included in the sale. The original hubcaps are provided, but dog dish hubcaps are not included.

Plymouth introduced the Barracuda in 1964, making it one of the earliest competitors in the pony car segment. Based on the Valiant platform, the Barracuda combined a compact body with sporty styling and performance options. Its most recognizable feature was the wraparound rear glass, the largest piece of curved glass used in a production car at the time.

The first-generation Barracuda was available with a range of engines, from the economical Slant 6 to more powerful V8 options. While it was initially overshadowed by the Mustang, the Barracuda developed a loyal following and evolved into a more aggressive muscle car in later years. Today, early Barracudas are appreciated for their unique design, historical significance, and increasing rarity.

This car offers a balance between originality and usability, appealing to enthusiasts looking for a project or a driver with vintage appeal.
