The seller offers for sale this 1991 Peugeot 405 GRi 4×4 sedan, equipped with a 1.9-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. This rare top-specification version features permanent four-wheel drive with a viscous central differential, Torsen rear differential, and pneumatic rear suspension. First delivered in Switzerland, the car was later imported to Portugal in 2002 by its long-term owner and has been carefully preserved. Certified by Museu do Caramulo as a Vehicle of Historical Interest until 2029, it represents a unique collector’s piece. The car retains its original glass, factory dark tint, rubbers, alloy wheels, and interior components. The bodywork received light corrective repainting in selected areas but remains in the original factory colour. The interior is in good and original condition, with fabric seats, trim, and headliner all intact and the original Blaupunkt radio working. The engine runs smoothly, the gearbox shifts precisely, and the car shows no smoke, unusual noises, visible rust, or accident history. A recent service has been completed, though a specialist check of the pneumatic suspension and central differential is recommended due to limited use.
The Peugeot 405, launched in the late 1980s, quickly became one of the brand’s most successful models, admired for its comfort, sharp design by Pininfarina, and balanced handling. The GRi 4×4 version was the most advanced model of the range, combining Peugeot’s rally-inspired technology with everyday usability. While most 405s were built in large numbers, the 4×4 variant remained rare, making it particularly desirable today among collectors and enthusiasts. Its blend of practicality, responsive driving dynamics, and unique drivetrain technology ensures that it continues to stand out in the classic car world.
