The seller offers for sale this 1948 Packard Super Eight, powered by a 5,361 cc straight-eight petrol engine, paired with a manual transmission.
Finished in cream with a red leather interior, this cabriolet was acquired fully restored in 2004 at an exhibition in Germany and has since formed part of a private family collection. Use has been occasional and light over the past two decades, limited to leisurely Sunday drives, modelling photo shoots, and weddings. The interior presents in good condition throughout, with red leather upholstery and a cream dashboard in keeping with the car’s overall presentation. The hydraulic hood mechanism and hydraulic windows are period features rarely seen on post-war American automobiles.
Packard was one of the foremost American luxury automobile manufacturers of the first half of the twentieth century, with a heritage stretching back to 1899. The Super Eight designation sat at the heart of the Packard range, underpinned by a refined straight-eight engine that became the marque’s hallmark for smoothness and refinement. The Twenty-Second Series cars of 1948, of which this is an example, represented some of the last true Packard luxury models before the company’s product direction shifted in subsequent years, making the surviving examples from this era among the most sought-after of all postwar American classics.
The chassis number is 22797205. The car is documented as a six-seater, reflecting the spacious nature of the cabriolet body.
